Dr Ekaterina Kostioukhina is a medical doctor whose job is to advance research in how to take care of the humans who go into space. Her interest has always been helping people to deal with accidents and disasters - and space is an area where disasters are routine, and every day is a challenge. She was born in Russia, then her family emigrated to Ecuador, and then they emigrated again to the United States, where she did most of her training. After a couple of years in Mexico, she moved to New Zealand where she currently lives. She says exposure to so many radically different cultures has helped her understand humanity more. Former United States President Jimmy Carter has died aged 100 at his home in Plains, Georgia. President Carter served a single term in the White House from January 1977 to January 1981.
